PRESS RELEASE - September 2010
The first incarnation of EasyEpos was born in 2003 - as a piece of bespoke software for a mobile phone shop in Dudley, West Midlands.
Many small businesses were embracing the internet, and found it an ideal way to sell their goods on-line.
When founder member and programmer, Matthew Wilkes, stumbled across a new client, "Matrix World" in his home town of Dudley, he had no idea that the product he would develop for them would grow into something so much bigger.
Matrix World were enjoying success selling mobile phones and accessories from their high street shop, but also wanted a web site from which they could sell on-line. The only problem was keeping their stock levels synchronised between the online store (website) and the high street shop.
Whilst the web site would show a certain phone in stock, they may already have sold it over the counter - so a customer could be trying to buy a phone on-line that was already sold out!
Updating the web site stock levels each evening after the shop closed would quickly become a nightmare.
Matthew came up with the concept of a point of sale system 'real time' linked to the web site - with the product stock list being held in 'cyberspace';
...each time a sale was made over the counter, stock would be updated on the web site...
...and
each time an item of stock was sold on the web site, a message would appear on a terminal in the shop alerting staff to take the item off the shelf ready for mailing...
Similar systems were costing upwards of £100,000 and were therefore only plausible for large multi-nationals - however, by utilising the internet as a network, costs could be cut dramatically, and allow a small retailer to get online with real time stock control between their high street store and virtual store for a fraction of this cost!
Back in 2003, whilst broadband was available, few shop owners actually had it installed at their shop, so an 'always on' internet connection running an epos system was not viable. However, with connection prices dropping and the proliferation of cut-price service providers emerging throughout 2004/05, Matthew decided to develop EasyEpos into an easily affordable 'boxed solution'.
The system has grown since it's inception and now includes remote stock administration, buy trend tracking and even SMS marketing which can send a variety of messages out at the touch of a button - from monthly specials to targeted customers, to Happy Birthday offers !
Now costing less than many stand-alone epos systems, at £695 EasyEpos represents outstanding value for money for small retailers that want to link their high street shop to their web site and keep prices and stock levels up to date from wherever they have an internet connection.
